Strategic Resolution

Practical tools for constructive community action

Strategic Resolution is Peaceful Planet’s approach to helping people turn difficulties into problems that can be understood and addressed. It brings together tools and methods for investigating concerns, organising evidence, identifying responsibilities and working towards practical improvements.

A concern may begin with something people experience in everyday life: a deteriorating building, an unreliable service, an unexplained environmental condition or difficulty getting a response. The first task is to establish what is happening, what remains uncertain and what steps could help.

From concern to constructive action

Understand the concern
Describe what is happening, who is affected and what improvement is being sought. Distinguish observations from possible explanations, and identify questions that need further investigation.

Build the evidence
Bring together residents’ knowledge, correspondence, records and relevant research. Where appropriate, seek measurements, testing and specialist expertise to assess possible causes.

Identify responsibilities
Establish which organisations, public bodies and elected representatives have relevant responsibilities or powers, and identify the appropriate routes for reporting concerns and requesting action.

Work towards resolution
Present findings clearly, make practical requests, keep records of responses and follow up. Review what has changed and what further action may be needed.

Tools that support the process

Strategic Resolution brings together and develops practical resources such as:

  • Community questionnaires and ways to record local observations.

  • Methods for organising evidence and identifying gaps in knowledge.

  • Mapping tools to identify elected representatives and relevant organisations.

  • Guidance on reporting, complaints, reviews and escalation.

  • Letter templates, briefings and correspondence records to support effective communication.

The tools used will depend on the concern, the available evidence and the people involved.

Supporting the London Community Project

Peaceful Planet’s London Community Project is an emerging application of Strategic Resolution, with initial development work taking place in Camden.

The project brings together investigation of local infrastructure, community capability and Science for Citizens. Strategic Resolution provides practical methods for connecting residents’ observations with evidence, relevant expertise and constructive engagement with responsible organisations.

Dignity, understanding and participation

This work grows from Peaceful Planet’s commitment to human dignity and education that enables people to put their human rights into practice.

Meaningful participation requires knowledge, confidence and practical ways to be heard. Strategic Resolution helps connect community experience with institutional responsibility, creating opportunities for informed dialogue and coordinated action.
