Topic 5 – Human Dignity

Definition of dignity:

Dignity is an internal state of peace that comes with the recognition and acceptance of the value and vulnerability of all living things.

A New Model of Dignity

Donna Hicks, PhD has given us the language for understanding, exploring and expressing human dignity in her best-selling book Dignity Its Essential Role in Resolving Conflict.

Peaceful Planet’s Human Dignity Workshop and workbook create an understanding of the fundamental importance of human dignity in human relations. Dr Hicks describes 10 Elements of Dignity and 10 Temptations to Violate Dignity.

The principle of human dignity is even more foundational than that of human rights, as it transcends ethnicity, language and religion. Taking part in Peaceful Planet’s Human Dignity workshop is an excellent way to begin studying human rights. Through an exploration of both the meaning of human dignity and how to relate to others, students of human rights can begin to understand violations of individual rights as temptations to compromise human dignity.

Please see Peaceful Planet’s Human Dignity Workshop/Workbook course for an exploration of human dignity needs and violations.
